B Thomas Pet and Garden Supplies has been proud to serve Bargoed and surrounding communities since 1950, when it was set up by Len Collins. Len’s father, David “Bob” Collins, had run a corn merchant business in Dowlais and Merthyr Tydfil since 1924, and Len worked in the family business before moving his own young family to Bargoed to set up on his own.
Len’s eldest son, present owner Peter Collins, has been running the business since 1972. Over the years the shop has developed into a pet shop, making it a favourite with generations of Bargoed children keen to see the animals, but it still maintains a traditional bulk trade supplying poultry and horse feed, pigeon corn and bird seed.
The shop also has a dedicated garden section, and the knowledgeable staff are happy to offer gardeners advice based on their years of experience.
